In 2024, I will swim the English Channel for Blue Dragon!
On July 24, 2022, I swam my first 20km ultra-marathon open water event in Queensland (Australia) to raise money for Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation to rescue victims of human trafficking and to raise awareness about Blue Dragon’s mission and strategy to end human trafficking in Vietnam. Together we raised $20,565.25 and rescued 6 victims of human trafficking!
My next dream, is to swim the English Channel for Blue Dragon, raising money and awareness with every stroke along the way.
Raising $200,000 will end human trafficking in 10 villages across the mountains of Vietnam. Money raised will send kids to school, build houses for families in crisis situations, buy livestock for families, train villagers to identify and prevent human trafficking and support survivors of human trafficking to rebuild their lives.
My 'window' for the swim is July 26 to August 1, 2024.
So far, I've completed two of my three giant English Channel training and qualifying challenges:
- Palm to Shelly 26km swim which I swam on March 11, 2023
- I tested the waters - so to speak - in June 2023 and attended the Cold Water Training Camp and Qualifying Swim, managing to qualify 12 months early! (I'll attend two more qualifying events next year - one in Melbourne and one in Sydney - to continue to build my cold water tolerance.)
The third challenge will be the Port to Pub 25km swim to Rottnest Island in Perth, Western Australia, in March 2024
